For over 13 years, I worked for Indiana's Family and Social Services Administration as an eligibility specialist, a fraud investigator, and a state eligibility manager, helping Hoosier families get the support they needed and stopped the people who abused the system.
I'm running because Indiana government has stopped working for you.
Here's what 21 years of Republican supermajority control has gotten Hoosiers: Indiana is #1 in the nation for foreclosures. The 3rd most polluted state in the country. Top 10 for maternal and infant mortality. 10th worst state for healthcare. 46th in education. 42nd for jobs. And we routinely rank at the bottom for voter turnout, because too many Hoosiers have stopped believing their vote changes anything.
And here's why: While Indiana Republicans used taxpayer money to fund a helipad for the Governor's private mansion, a hospitality sports box for his friends, and luxury SUVs for themselves, they voted to strip health coverage from Hoosier kids (174,000 of them), according to a Georgetown University analysis, the steepest drop of any state in the country.
They handed out over $8 billion in tax breaks for out-of-state data centers, then sent Hoosiers the bill for it after voting down an amendment that would have given Hoosiers the same 7% sales tax break they gave to the corporations. And they didn’t stop there. They then voted against a childcare tax credit for working families after cutting childcare vouchers which resulted in the closure of over 300 childcare centers. They routinely help out their donors while making Hoosiers foot the bill.
It's time for representation that puts Hoosiers before corporations. It's time for representation that doesn't leave working families holding the bill for billionaires who tell us to pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps but refuse to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. It's time for representation that fully funds the education of our kids: Indiana’s future.
